If you will be traveling out of the country, its always a good idea to do your homework and see if the location you’re headed to has any illness’ you are not currently protected against. What is Travel Medicine?

Travel medicine is preventative medical care for individuals who plan to travel to countries with known illness’ that the United States does not routinely vaccinate against. Some travel medicine services did here at Ultra Med Include:

Yellow Fever

Yellow fever is a viral infection that is spread through a specific species of mosquito. This species is most common to areas of Africa and South America. It is recommended that you receive a vaccine before traveling to certain areas of the world.

Hepatitis A & B

Twinrix is a vaccine that protects against both the hepatitis A and hepatitis B Virus.  Three Twinrix vaccinations are required to complete the series.

Japanese Encephalitis

Japanese Encephalitis is a serious infection caused by a virus which can result in death or neurological damage. Japanese Encephalitis spreads through the bite of infected mosquitoes, but it will not one person to another.


Poliomyelitis is a highly contagious infectious disease caused by the poliovirus.

While polio is near non-existent in the United States, the virus can still occur in some areas of Africa and the middle east.


If you are going abroad and will be in contact with animals in a country in which rabies is less controlled, this is when a rabies pre-or post-vaccination is recommended.


The typhoid fever is often a result of the salmonella bacteria which can be contracted by consuming affected food and water. This vaccination is recommended for most international travelers.

Mosquito Carried Disease Prevention

Mosquitos are known to carry a variety of serious diseases, some of which are preventable by vaccination and some that can only be avoided by taking care not to get stung. Yellow and Dengue fever can be prevented by vaccination while malaria cannot.
